Science and Art Exhibition "Pollution: The Possibility of a Science Gallery" / National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Arts Center

Date: 2026-06-01 — 2026-07-09 Organizer: 國立陽明交通⼤學藝⽂中⼼
Looking back at the history of science, the discovery of the antibiotic penicillin actually came from a contamination in an experiment.

When we talk about pollution, we might think of microplastics, viruses, or space debris. But at the same time, pollution also symbolizes the disturbance of boundaries, or the permeation, staining, and hybridization of two sets of things. This kind of interaction may seem negative, but it also represents an opportunity for change. "Art & Science Collaboration" is similar—it may seem to interfere with each other's methodologies, yet it can blend to create entirely new possibilities.

This exhibition is divided into two main sections. The first floor of the Arts Space showcases the diversity of "Art & Science Collaboration" in international academic and research institutions, giving visitors a preliminary understanding of exhibition models like "Science and Art Exhibitions" that combine artistic and popular science value. The second floor of the Arts Space is the "Pollution" themed exhibition area. In addition to inviting multiple international contemporary artworks from Europe, Southeast Asia, and elsewhere that discuss pollution, it also collaborates with courses and research projects from the Institute of Applied Arts, the Department of Dentistry, and the Institute of Science, Technology and Society at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University to display related outcomes of "Art & Science Collaboration" within the university.

In today's Taiwan, models of collaboration between art and science seem scarce. However, do we actually need such exhibition models? If so, what strategies should we use to build systems and engage in international exchange? This exhibition invites everyone to think and brainstorm together.
