Kaohsiung Award 30 Years: The Unfinished and Reawakening of Art (Exhibition Zone 1)
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the "Kaohsiung Award (高雄獎)." As one of the most representative art awards in southern Taiwan, the Kaohsiung Award is not only a competition system but also a continuously evolving cultural field, reflecting profound changes in Taiwan's contemporary art in terms of institutions, creative vocabulary, and social relations. Over the past 30 years, the Kaohsiung Award has produced 128 winners. This exhibition is structured in decade-long dimensions, divided into three chapters: "The Age of Creation (創形的年代)," "The Shifting Boundaries (流變的疆界)," and "The Future Form (未來的形貌)." It selects award-winning works from 47 winners for display. Through generational presentation and phased observation, it shows how art transforms its objects of concern and modes of expression under different social conditions and institutional contexts. "Kaohsiung Award 30 Years" is both a retrospective exhibition and a starting point for inquiry. While looking back at the past, this exhibition attempts to leave open space for the future, allowing art to restart amidst the unfinished.
