After the Rainbow: Huang Tsai-lang Solo Exhibition
In 1995, Huang Tsai-lang (黃才郎) created a magnificent symbolic image for the newly opened Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts with his large-scale oil painting 'Rainbow—After the Rain at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.' That rainbow marked the beginning of a new chapter for art in southern Taiwan and was also a microcosm of Huang Tsai-lang's lifelong artistic journey. Thirty years later, he returns to the museum as an artist, using his brush to once again contemplate the flow of time and life. 'After the Rainbow' is both a look back at past glory and a rekindling of the original creative impulse.
Huang Tsai-lang, who holds dual roles as an arts administrator and a creative artist, has been a key promoter of post-war fine arts development in Taiwan. He served as director of three major public art museums in northern, central, and southern Taiwan, setting records in Taiwan's art history. Yet behind the administrative accolades, there has always been a quietly persistent painter's soul, using the steadiness of sketching and the emotion of oil paint to depict his gaze upon life, nature, and time. This exhibition is Huang Tsai-lang's continuation 'after the rainbow': a return from arts administrator to creator once more, letting the brush again become a bridge between the soul and the land.
