Wandering Between Origins: Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) Solo Exhibition
"Wandering Between Origins" Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) Solo Exhibition
2026.06.20 – 2026.08.01
This exhibition focuses on the artist's important life journeys and spiritual transformation in recent years. The works are inspired by her 2025 trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) in the Himalayas of Nepal, as well as the humanistic atmosphere and cultural impact she experienced during her residency on Corsica, France the same year. Through layered visual language of glue color painting (膠彩), ink wash, and mineral pigments, the artist reweaves the deep connections between mountains, earth, and inner consciousness.
Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) has long used glue color painting as her core medium. In recent years, her work has gradually shifted from figurative narrative to exploration of spirituality and inner perception. In this exhibition, the artist transforms her profound feelings for the natural environment during her travels into traces of energy on the canvas. From the cold, thin air of the Himalayas, the unpredictable weather, and the limits of the body, to the sight of animals silently carrying loads along the way—all have become important spiritual sources for this creation. During her mountain journey, the artist continuously engaged in inner dialogue with herself, and through chanting and walking, she re-perceived the relationship between body and consciousness at high altitude. For her, the body itself is a sacred temple, and all quests for divinity ultimately return to the inner self.
On the other hand, the residency experience on Corsica, France brought a completely different shift in perspective. The local atmosphere of freedom and tolerance, along with the frank and direct exchanges among artists, led the artist to rethink the value and meaning of creative existence. During the residency, Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) exchanged creative processes with animators and film directors from different fields, further confirming that art is not only an expression of personal emotion but also a medium capable of spiritual resonance with others.
This exhibition not only presents new works from 2026 but also looks back at the important contexts of the artist's works from different stages in recent years. The new works feature figurative elements such as Himalayan landscapes, trees, rivers, gravel, and animals, while integrating the artist's long-standing focus on light, energy, and spiritual imagery. The works extensively employ the "paper-crumpling technique" (揉紙技法) in glue color painting, using the natural textures formed by paper wrinkles, combined with layers of mineral pigments, new rock pigments, and earth pigments, to create textures and atmospheric effects resembling mountain rock strata. The artist also delicately depicts plant and animal forms with a brush, and directly applies pigments with her fingers, bringing the creative act closer to a direct perception between body and land.
In addition, Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) has experimented with handmade "handmade paper" (手抄紙) for this exhibition, painting mystical spirit-beast images on it. These works continue her recent exploration of spirituality and energy fields, further weaving nature, mythology, and inner consciousness into a visual language.
From the inner exploration following the passing of a loved one in 2020 to the experience of walking through mountains and the world, Tseng Shih-han's (曾詩涵) creation has always revolved around the pursuit of "transformation" and "light." Through fractal-like colors, fluid brushstrokes, and spatial structures full of breath, she attempts to transform those ineffable perceptions into spiritual fields within the image. When viewers look at the works, they are not merely viewing scenery or images, but rather entering a long journey about life, nature, and self-awareness.
"Wandering Between Origins" is not only an exhibition about travel and nature but also a gaze into the inner world. Through her works, the artist invites the audience to re-feel the subtle connections between body, emotion, and the world, and to find their own spiritual coordinates within the flow of different life experiences.
Tseng Shih-han (曾詩涵) has collaborated with Apollo Gallery (阿波羅畫廊) for many years. She first participated in Young Art Taipei 2016 (YAT 2016) in 2016, then joined the gallery's emerging artist cultivation program "Young Peach Pie" (楊桃派) in 2017, and has since continued to participate in exhibitions and art fairs curated by the gallery, including "Future Light" (未來光): Taiwanese Young Glue Color Painters in an Age of Differentiation, Art Taipei, Tainan Art Fair, Taichung Art Fair, and ONE ART Taipei. Over the years, Apollo Gallery has consistently supported and promoted Tseng Shih-han's (曾詩涵) creative development, witnessing her artistic practice evolve from glue color painting and ink wash toward spirituality, natural perception, and inner transformation. This "Wandering Between Origins" can also be seen as an important solo exhibition within the long-term collaboration between the artist and the gallery.
