My Soul Sways in the Wind - Solo Exhibition by Liao Yi-hsin
Exhibition Introduction | My Soul Sways in the Wind
We cannot see the wind, but when we see leaves trembling and curtains billowing, we know the wind exists. So, how do we see a person's indescribable psychological state, woven from daily life, memory, and imagination?
Those elusive, fragile, and flowing inner tugs are like the soul swaying in an invisible wind. In this solo exhibition, Liao Yi-hsin (廖以歆) transforms these invisible inner vibrations into abstract forms and objects, capturing those fleeting moments. These states originate from profound life experiences, encompassing reality, human memory, and imagination, even including subtle sensory traces like scent. She then translates these invisible inner vibrations into concrete residues of presence and absence, emotion and memory.
In the creative process, she deliberately retains traces of paint while also smearing, covering, or erasing, making "creation" and "dissolution" core elements of the work, highlighting the uncertain, fragile, and fluid states of life. The canvas thus becomes a space of negotiation, a field of negotiation between memory and forgetting, allowing painting itself to be constantly redefined.
