Huang Pan-pei (黃潘培) Classical Guitar Ensemble 53rd Anniversary Concert
The Huang Pan-pei Classical Guitar Ensemble was founded in 1973 and has now been active for 53 years, making it a long-standing guitar performance art group in Taiwan. Founder Huang Pan-pei (黃潘培) hails from Hsinying, Tainan, and studied conducting, arrangement, and guitar ensemble techniques at Japan's Shinbori Guitar School; the artistic style inherits the "Shinbori system" guitar ensemble from Japan, dedicated to promoting guitar music. The performance format features diverse instrumental combinations; besides classical guitars, it collaborates with pianist Lai Hsin-ju (賴欣如), clarinetist Tsai Chen-fang (蔡辰芳), flutist Yu Chieh (游婕), percussionist Wu Yun-shan (吳昀珊), young violinist Wu Cheng-yueh (吳澄岳), and cellist Wu Cheng-en (吳承恩). The repertoire covers various folk songs, Western classical music, film and animation theme songs.
Led by conductor/violinist Wu Yi-tsung (吳怡宗), with clarinetist Tsai Chen-fang, pianist Lai Hsin-ju, young violinist Wu Cheng-yueh, flutist Yu Chieh, percussionist Wu Yun-shan, cellist Wu Cheng-en, and special guest performer Satoshi Tomihara, conductor of Japan's Hokuriku Guitar Orchestra, they blend with the guitars to create a refreshing feast for the senses!
The program includes pieces from Hayao Miyazaki's animation "Whisper of the Heart" - "Country Road" and Joe Hisaishi's "Ghibli Studio Melody Suite (That Summer, A Town with an Ocean View, and Ponyo)", Paul de Senneville's "Serenade of the Stars ~ Legend of the Dream", American folk song "My Darling Clementine", Xinjiang folk song "Under the Silver Moonlight", Peruvian folk song "El Condor Pasa", Taiwanese folk song "Harbor Night Rain" and Taiwanese song "Hometown at Dusk", pop songs "You Raise Me Up" and "Thousand Winds", classical pieces Bizet's "Pearl Fishers' Song", Bach's "Air on the G String", Max Reger's "Prelude and Fugue in G minor, Op. 117, for Violin", and Schumann's "The Happy Farmer", as well as the musical "Les Miserables Suite", and more.
