"2026 Taiwan Woodcarving Special Exhibition—'One Wood, One Heart' Huang Kuo-shu (黃國書) Woodcarving Heritage Exhibition" showcases 80 representative works from Huang Kuo-shu's over 30-year dedication to woodcarving creation.
Huang Kuo-shu was born in 1958 in Lukang, Changhua. Growing up in a town filled with Han Chinese culture and beliefs, the abundant "Chongfu" (deity statue carving) craftsmanship locally nurtured the fertile ground for him to become an artist. After graduating from junior high school, Huang Kuo-shu entered a woodcarving factory. He later apprenticed under the Taiwanese woodcarving master—Lukang's Li Sung-lin (李松林), learning profound traditional techniques and subsequently开创出屬於自己的全新創作風景, carving out his own new creative landscape, finding a new direction for his woodcarving work.
Huang Kuo-shu's woodcarving art has repeatedly received recognition from important national awards. In 1995, he won first place in the carving category of the 4th National Folk Craft Award. In 2003, he received the first prize of the 3rd National Craft Award. In 2004, he was awarded the 8th Yulon Woodcarving Silver Award, and in 2024, he received the honor of the Taiwan Woodcarving Heritage Achievement Award.
