115th Year Miaoli County Western Painting Society [Hakka Sentiment & Art] Members Joint Exhibition

Date: 2026-07-31 — 2026-08-23 Organizer: 苗栗縣西畫學會
This exhibition, themed "Hakka Sentiment & Art" (客家情藝), brings together approximately 60 meticulously created works by members, covering diverse media such as oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, and pastel. Artists focus on local life, humanistic customs, natural landscapes, and emotional memories as their creative core, using delicate brushwork and unique compositions to showcase the profound human touch and artistic vitality of Hakka culture.
The exhibited works feature diverse styles, blending realism and freehand expression. Some delicately depict the mountain town scenery of Miaoli, others express inner emotions through bold colors, and still others integrate innovative concepts with contemporary perspectives. Each piece demonstrates the members' mature techniques and continuous artistic pursuit, allowing viewers to feel as if they are immersed in the scene, experiencing the deep connection between art and the land.
To enhance visitor interaction, a special "Top 10 Most Popular Works Voting Activity" is planned during the exhibition, inviting audiences to select their favorite pieces, making the visit not just about appreciation but also about participating in artistic exchange and sharing.
Additionally, on August 19 (Wednesday), coinciding with the Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine's Day), a "Valentine's Day Portrait Sketching" event will be held at the exhibition venue, specially inviting couples to step into the gallery and become the romantic portrait subjects under the artists' brushes. Through artistic creation and emotional interaction, this adds a warm cultural atmosphere to the Qixi Festival and brings art closer to people's daily lives.
The Miaoli County Western Painting Society was founded in 1982 (Republic Year 71) by 53 local individuals passionate about painting. It is the only art group in the county focused on Western painting. Through the dedicated efforts of past chairmen Lo Jih-huang (羅日煌), Chen Piao-yin (陳標殷), Chiang Yi-chang (江義章), and current chairwoman Hsieh Wan-tung (謝宛彤), the society has steadily grown and developed. The society is committed to inspiring people and beautifying life through art, while also engaging in mutual learning and exchange with various art groups, thereby enriching the cultural life of Miaoli residents.
The Miaoli County Western Painting Society has long been dedicated to promoting local art and cultural roots. This joint exhibition not only showcases the members' abundant creative energy but also aims to convey the humanistic spirit of "Hakka Sentiment & Art" through art, deepening local cultural identity and boosting Miaoli's artistic atmosphere.
We sincerely welcome friends from all walks of life to visit and enjoy this wonderful exhibition that blends local sentiment, humanity, and artistic creativity.
